Making and Receiving Calls
How to Make a Call
There are several ways to initiate a call in 3CX:
Method 1: Click to Call
- In your web client or app, you'll see a list of extensions (your colleagues)
- Simply click on a colleague's name or extension
- The call will start immediately
Method 2: Search and Dial
- Look for the search box at the top of your 3CX interface
- Type either:
- A colleague's name
- An extension number
- An external phone number
- Click the call button or press Enter
Method 3: Using the Dialpad
- Look for the phone/dialpad icon
- Click it to open the dialpad
- Enter the number and press call
Choosing Where the Call Rings
Here's a really useful feature: you can choose which device receives and makes your calls.
The Phone Toggle
Look for the phone icon in your interface – this is your phone selector toggle. Click on it to switch between:
- Web Client – Takes calls through your computer's speakers and microphone
- Mobile App – Routes calls to your smartphone
- Desk Phone – Sends calls to your physical office phone
This means you can be logged in on multiple devices but control where your calls actually go. Perfect for when you're moving between your desk and meetings.
Receiving Calls
When someone calls you:
- You'll see a notification showing who's calling
- If you have multiple devices, the call will ring on whichever device you've selected with the phone toggle
- Click "Answer" to take the call or "Decline" to send it to voicemail
Top Tip: If you're heading into a meeting, switch your phone toggle to your mobile so you can answer calls away from your desk without missing anything important.
