Managing Your Status
Why Your Status Matters
Your status tells your colleagues whether you're available, busy, or away. It helps them know when it's a good time to call or message you.
Status Indicators
3CX uses a simple colour system:
- Green (Available) – You're at your desk and ready to take calls
- Yellow (On a Call) – You're currently speaking to someone
- Red (Busy) – You're not available; calls will go to your voicemail
- Grey (Away) – You're not at your desk
How to Change Your Status
On the Web Client or App:
- Look for your profile picture or avatar (usually in the top-left corner)
- Click on the dropdown arrow next to it
- Select your desired status from the list
Adding a Status Message
Want to let people know why you're busy or when you'll be back? Add a status message:
- Click on the pencil icon next to your status
- Type your message (e.g., "In a meeting until 3pm" or "Working from home")
- Your colleagues will see this when they hover over your name
Setting a Temporary Status
This is brilliant for when you need to step away for a specific period:
- Change your status as normal
- Look for the "Set status temporarily" option
- Choose how long you want this status to last
- After the time expires, your status will automatically return to Available
Examples of When to Use Each Status
- Available: You're at your desk working normally
- Busy: You're focusing on important work and don't want interruptions
- Away: You've popped out for lunch or stepped into a meeting
- Status message: "Back at 2pm", "In training all day", "Available on mobile only"
Top Tip: Keep your status updated throughout the day. It helps colleagues know when to contact you and improves team communication.
