3CX Desk Phone User Guide - Making Calls & Features

Using Your Desk Phone

Making Calls from Your Desk Phone

If you have a physical desk phone connected to 3CX, you have several options for making calls:

Method 1: Direct Dialling

  1. Pick up the handset
  2. Dial the number on the keypad
  3. Press the send or enter button (or wait for auto-dial)

Method 2: Click-to-Dial from Web Client

This is particularly handy and time-saving:

  1. Keep your desk phone as your selected device using the phone toggle
  2. In your web client, click on a contact or number
  3. Your desk phone will ring
  4. Pick up the handset – you're connected

This means you can search for contacts and numbers on your computer's big screen, but take the call comfortably on your desk phone.

Understanding Your Desk Phone Buttons

Most 3CX-compatible desk phones have these common buttons:

  • Hold – Puts the caller on hold whilst you do something else
  • Transfer – Initiates a call transfer
  • Mute – Silences your microphone
  • Voicemail – Quick access to your voicemail
  • Redial – Calls the last number you dialled

Integration with Web Client

Your desk phone and web client work together seamlessly. Changes you make in one are reflected in the other:

  • Set your status in the web client – your desk phone's status light changes
  • Put a call on hold on your desk phone – you'll see it in the web client too
  • Transfer a call from either device

Best Practice: Learn the key buttons on your desk phone model. Different brands (Yealink, Snom, etc.) have slightly different layouts, but the core functions are the same.
