Transferring Calls
Why Transfer Calls?
Sometimes you'll need to pass a call to a colleague – perhaps someone's asking for a specific person, or the enquiry needs expertise from another department. 3CX makes this simple.
Two Types of Transfer
Blind Transfer (Quick Transfer)
Use this when you just need to send the call to someone else without speaking to them first.
From the Web Client or App:
- Whilst on a call, click the "Transfer" button
- Type the extension number or start typing your colleague's name
- Click "Transfer"
- Hang up – the call is now transferred
From a Desk Phone:
- Press the "Transfer" button on your phone
- Dial the extension number
- Press send/dial
- Hang up
Attended Transfer (Announced Transfer)
Use this when you want to speak to your colleague first to explain who's calling and why.
From the Web Client or App:
- Click "Att. Transfer" (Attended Transfer)
- Type the extension or colleague's name
- Wait for them to answer
- Explain who's calling and what they need
- Click "Transfer" to complete the transfer
From a Yealink Desk Phone:
- Press "Transfer"
- Dial the extension or select from your contacts
- Press "Send"
- Announce the caller
- Press "Transfer" again
- Hang up
From a Snom Desk Phone:
- Press the "Hold" button
- Dial the extension
- Announce the call when they answer
- Press "Transfer"
- Press send/dial
- Hang up
Best Practice: If you're new to the job or team, use attended transfers when possible. It's more professional and ensures the person you're transferring to is available and knows what the call is about.
